Tech Levy 2007
In February 2006, with the support of the Olympia community our district passed a capital projects levy for technology. The funds for the implementation of this levy are now being collected and will continue for the next four years. This levy is designed to assist the district achieve the following:
- Re-establish an equitable distribution of computers across the district, replace non standards-based computers and upgrade network infrastructure
- Establish standardized and sustainable technology systems
- Support the four goals of the district's technology plan:
- Use technology resources to improve communications
- Develop technology skills for students and use technology to enhance learning activities
- Support teachers to reach Tier 2 (using technology as an instructional tool)
- Provide strategic interventions through technology based learning programs
- Place Tier 2 technologies into all classrooms (projector, document camera, wireless laptop, and appropriate software resources)
- Implement key learning programs to close existing achievement gaps
Three overarching tenets of the 2007 Technology Levy:
- Technology On Purpose - All technology equipment will be placed for the purpose of supporting teaching and learning.
- Training and Support are Essential - Placement of equipment will coincide with appropriate training and support for the effective use of that equipment.
- Equitable Distribution of Common Resources - All equipment will be distributed equitably across the district so as to provide a common baseline of technology for each building and classroom.
